Australia estimates wheat crop over average

17.02.2009

More optimistic outlook for wheat, barley and canola production in Australia. The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource (ABARE) forecasts for the now finished winter crop 21,4 mio. t wheat, 6,8 mio. t barley and 1,6 mio. t canola in the today published crop report. The december rating was more pessimistic, especially for wheat. Wheat and canola crop 2008/09 top the result of the year before  each about more than a half. But 2007/08 was a really dry year. Compared to the average five years ago the actual crop for wheat is slightly over average, but the reason is more farming land. Only the actual canola crop is really profitable for the Australian farmers, compared with the last years.
