No approvation for the insecticide Mesurol

20.01.2009

The insecticide Mesurol is not yet approved. "The approvations of the four maize agents are still at rest", said a speaker of the BVL (Bundesamtes für Verbraucherschutz und Lebensmittelsicherheit, Federal authority for consumer protection and food security) at Braunschweig to "Ernährungsdienst.de". They are not sure if and when there will be made a decision. An express regulation was announced for Mesurol for moday, yesterday, that was presented to the Bundeslandwirtschaftsministerium (BMVEL, federal ministry for agriculture). Mesurol was banned last spring 2009, together with agents that contain Clothianidin insecticides. A second approval is expected, but it will be allowed to use it only under certain conditions. It is sure that treated maize seeds are allowed to seed only with changed over devices. Last year the BVL took back the approvation for these insecticides, because in the South-West of Germany the bees died out when the maize was seeded. Investigations showed that the insecticide came out in high concentrations into environment, with the outgoing air of the pneumatic seeding machines.
