Turkey hen breeding - a problem for the organic agricultureTurkey hen breeding - a problem for the organic agriculture
With reference to the infringements committed by Berthold Franz Sander who breeds turkey hen in the German Federal Land Nordrhein-Westfalen, the newspaper TAZ in Berlin writes today about this problem, in a new article written by Hanna Gersmann. The article says: The farmer in Nordrhein-Westfalen and the green politician Friedrich Ostendorff ask now to "say it honestly: organic turkey hen do not exist." "We" are all Bioland members, the biggest German organisation for organic agriculture. The once biggest organic poultry distributor in Germany, who now feels "honestly sorry", has feeded his turkey hen illegally with total normal instead of organic fodder. Mr. Ostendorff does not accept the excuse. Like many of his colleagues he's disgusted by "so much criminal energy".
More and more in focus is now the way of keeping and breeding turkey hen. The way isn't compatible with the principles of organic agriculture. The TAZ writes that ecologists were asking for a long time to abandon turkey hen breeding. Mr. Ostendorff is the only organic farmer who fights for it - and he has enemies, for example the Bioland boss Mr. Thomas Dosch. You can see that he's angry when he says: "We don't need a moratorium." He doesn't want to leave the business to others, for example Naturland, writes Hanna Gersmann. The questions of breeding are discussed together with Sarah Wiener, at the BioFach Expo in Nuremberg. The awareness to a consequent organic live-stock breeding grows in organisations, institutions and in some trading companies. But trading isn't so strong: the organic market concentrated for many years on vegetables. First were risolved the questions about the increasing number of animals. However the client imagines organic live-stock breeding, for instance he doesn't like chick killing in the organic eggs production. "Surplus value for organic live-stock breeding, differentiation in the animal products trade", this is the name of the event on 21.2.2009 at BioFach in Nuremberg, 16-17.30 Uhr, Expo Nuremberg, room Oslo. The partecipants of the discussion are Sarah Wiener, patron of live-stock breeding fond for species appropriate live-stock breeding, Prof. Dr. Franz Theo Gottwald, Schweisfurth Stiftung, Sven Euen, tegutG gute Lebensmittel (good food) and Jörg Reuter, eco-strategies. Dr. Katharina Reuter leads the discussion, she is member of the live-stock breeding fond for species appropirate live-stock breeding at the foundation future in agriculture.
